Aggarwala, E-mail The Corresponding Author and Bokyung Sunga aCytokine Research Laboratory, Department of Experimental Therapeutics, University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX 77030, USA Available online 26 December 2008. Curcumin (diferuloylmethane), a yellow pigment in the spice turmeric (also called curry powder), has been used for centuries as a treatment for inflammatory diseases. Extensive research within the past two decades has shown that curcumin mediates its anti-inflammatory effects through the downregulation of inflammatory transcription factors (such as nuclear factor êB), enzymes (such as cyclooxygenase 2 and 5 lipoxygenase) and cytokines (such as tumor necrosis factor, interleukin 1 and interleukin 6). Because of the crucial role of inflammation in most chronic diseases, the potential of curcumin has been examined in neoplastic, neurological, cardiovascular, pulmonary and metabolic diseases. The pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of curcumin have been examined in animals and in humans. Various pharmacological aspects of curcumin in vitro and in vivo are discussed in detail here.

Hi came to your article through a search in google. I am happy to know that it is helping you. Here is the truth for me; I have progressive Myasthenia Gravis for 32years since I was 13 years old and an advocate for consuming organic foods only. The short story currently on IVIG therapy since middle of 2007 and Mestinon since the age of 13. Never responded to any immune suppressant drugs so the choice remaining for me was IVIG. This year I continued to deteriorate until I started to consume Organic Turmeric Powder/Organic Curcumin Powder as of August 22 of 1 gram in capsule. On September 21 started taking 1 tablesthingy of the Organic Turmeric Powder (1 pound cost $12usa dollars at our Organic Market) and was able to sleep, breathe better and woke up twice only; no intense muscle ache and no choking to get my lungs to function. The next morning I was amazed that I felt so good and shared the information with my nurse. I resumed September 23 the following: 1 gram of Organic Turmeric Powder in Vegetarian Capsules morning with breakfast and at 15:00/3:00pm drank 1 tablesthingy of Organic Turmeric Powder with Organic goat milk 4ounces with 4 ounces of spring water. "warmed" the goat milk and spring in stainless steel pot, poured it on clear glass large cup and added 1 tablesthingy of the Organic Powder. I make sure to eat some organic wild rice or organic pure sprouted dry bread no yeast added...I sip this delicious drink for 20 minutes and think only of the benefits. I like the taste. Due to my progressive Myasthenia Gravis, inflicts all muscle groups from head through ankle and lung muscles (so all muscles). I have been able to not feel the intense muscle ache, I can drive NOW short distance, able to buy groceries as this function was left to my husband for many years, can use a three wheel walker longer for walks out of the house, I am not choking on my saliva, can breath better, sleep better, not coughing and gasping for air while sleeping. I make sure that at least I have 3 hours or longer between my drug Mestinon, before taking the Organic Turmeric. Of course since I protect my stomach with the correct foods before taking the Turmeric no side effects and I always drink plenty of spring water to flush my body throughout the day time. I will never stop using this as it is working for me. Please consider looking at the whole root not extract formulas, people from India take the whole grounded root. This product should not cost you alot of money, consider the Organic powder ($12 dollars a pound at the Organic Market in California) and be careful on drugs you are taking. You may surf the net to find out side effects of Turmeric as this not recommend for everyone good luck. :) :)

Our doctor is a 5th generation nutritionist from India. He recommends using turmeric, the spice, for my son who is diagnosed with Duchenne MD (exon 45 deletion). Turmeric has curcumin, but also a lot of other nutrients needed to cause a synergistic effect. He says it MUST be cooked in his food and we cannot use too much. I notice when I use to much TJ bruises easily. I do believe it helps a lot though, as long as it is in moderation. I mix it in his oatmeal along with bananas and cinnamon. It may look strange, because it turns bright yellow but he eats it right up! I also use it in tomato sauce as well as mix it in the breading for chicken.

Dear Marcelo,
I just found your Story here in this Forum. My son is 2 years old and diagnosed with DMD (in-Frame Mutation but a large one - missing exons 3-30,therefore they suggest DMD not BMD). I read your Story regarding the use of curcumin and was very impressed what improvement you recognized.... I wanted to ask you how you are Feeling today? Do you still take curcumin? We are giving our son 500mg/day.
Waiting for your answer.
Thanks, Simone

Dear Marcelo, I just read your post, and also many years have passed since you wrote it, I wanted to react in the hope you will read my mail... First I hope you're still ok. May I ask you if the curcuma still helps you? My 9 years old son has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and after reading you I started him on curcuma, hoping it would help him... Thanks very much for sharing your experience, A DMD mother.

Hello,
Wondering if you accepted guest posts on your site. Also would you be willing to insert links in existing posts?
How much would you charge for this?
