Hi all: yesterday I meet Miranda Grounds in Brazil. She visited UNICAMP (Campinas State University) with Thea Shavlakadze and Hannah Radley. She show some published and unpublished research with TNF inhibitor and mIgf-1 transgenic mice. This studies show that TNF is an important mediator of muscel damage in mdx mice. It's possible to block the TNF effects with drugs as Enbrel, Remicade, Humira and others. Why not start human trials now with one of this drug? Why no try? How: with clinical trials. You can see in the words of Jeffrey Chamberlain: "That will take several years, and may need many rounds of refinement in animals before any human trials can take place". Clinical researchers want more and more studies before trial in Human. This generation don't have this time. In my opinion we can accept some risk to get moving the trials. Today is very difficult because FDA and clinicial researchers don't want risks. I see a movie recently "Something The Lord Made" (http://www.hbo.com/films/stlm/) about the cardiac surgery of blue babies disease. They start Human surgery after the first success in dogs. Other example is cardiac transplantation in South Africa (Dr. Barnard).Today this is impossible but until we wait several studies in mice, dogs, clinical trials phase 1, 2 and 3 our son aggravate their conditions. Clinical researcher must reduce the time between the experimental studies and the liberation of therapy in Human disease. Our mission: pressure for therapy to this generation of patients. David
