Hi David,
just a question: How long does it take from the start of a Phase-I-Trial to the beginning of a clinical therapy? There is an interesting study from Dr. Cossu from Italy, he will begin a Phase-I-Trial with stem cells in 2009. If everything will work out fine, how fast could stem cells be in the clinic?
Greetings
Uli

He need at least 5 years to complete the study (phase 1, 2 and 3). In pharmacological trials it's possible to reduce this time. In stem cells or gene therapy studies, it' very difficult to reduce this time because they have fear with side effects (more than with medications).

Hi David,
thank you for your quick answer. Maybe there will be a faster therapy possible with exon skipping. Maybe....

Exon skipping - at least 5 years - 2012, for clinical use.

Dear Sir,
Exon skipping can be induced with antisense oligo's of different chemistries, such as 2OMePS or Morpholino's. There is not much difference. We work with 2OMePS, and have developed oligo's for many exons as well, including exon 55. In other words, yes we can induce the skipping of exon 55.
Obviously we are initially focusing on exons that apply to large groups of patients, such as exons 44, 45, 46, 51, 53. Hopefully the development is going as well as we now anticipate, so that products for other exons can be developed immediately after. Your question on how long this will be for exon 55 is a difficult one, for our first product for exon 51 we still need another 4 yours or so for final development to the market....
----------------------------------- Unfortunately my question (time for Skipping Exon 55) was not answered. Have you an opinion?
André
